METT Marbella – Estepona
Oh, I adore this hotel! The clever owner and designers have created a stunning setting—cool DJ vibes by the pool each afternoon, but a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere in the mornings and evenings. The music eases in gently around 1pm, gradually building just enough for 50% of the guests to be toe-tapping and head-bobbing—while plenty of others are still happily reading in peace.
At the ripe old age of 49, I’m not looking for foam parties or music so loud I can’t chat with friends or read a book. But I do love a lively atmosphere and a good bit of people-watching. This place strikes the perfect balance. It’s ideal for couples looking for a stylish getaway, groups of friends (think chic and low-key, not old-school hen do), and judging by the number of baby bumps around the pool—lots of babymoons too! There were even plenty of couples well into their 70s soaking up the atmosphere.
The swimming pool is the heart of the hotel, with the rooms elegantly wrapped around it in a horseshoe layout. The attentive team is always nearby if you fancy drinks or delicious food delivered straight to your lounger. And right on the beach, there are even more sunbeds, plus a gorgeous beach bar and restaurant.
The owner’s background in Dubai’s food, beverage, and nightlife scene really shines through—you can feel the influence. They’re also connected with Nammos, which gives you a sense of the Mett’s classy-but-fun atmosphere. The food is absolutely delicious—we tried nearly all the outlets—and it felt reasonably priced for the quality, which is a rare thing these days.
The rooms are generous, and the suites are exceptional—many with private gardens and pools. We had a duplex suite with a sea view and it was just wonderful. The view, with palm trees and endless sea, had a bit of a Miami feel to it.
This place is truly one-of-a-kind in Europe. You’d normally have to go to Miami or Dubai for this beach club vibe, but with a much shorter flight and an easy transfer, the Mett is hard to beat. You’ll need to taxi to nearby towns (about 15 minutes), which makes for an easy night out or change of scene. That said, you could easily not leave the hotel for a few days—they even host classy shows some evenings—and just fully recharge.
The last time I felt this way was at Eden Rock in St Barths. It gave me that rare, carefree feeling—like I could pause adult life for just a little while. That’s a hard feeling to come by, so take my word for it: let me send you to the Mett, and feel younger again for a few glorious days.
