Le Fitzroy and Le Val Thorens
I said in my last write up of a Beaumier hotel I wanted to visit them all. Well here is number two and three….
Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe and with the weather changing and heating up as sadly seems to be the case nowadays, it makes it a very special place for snow sure holidays.
It is a purpose built resort so not immediately pretty but immediately brilliant for skiing, restaurants and plenty of apres ski. It is above the tree line so offers a vast expanse of opens ski slopes. One is 16km long!
The two Beaumier hotels are almost next door and offer clients at both the ability to switch between easily, even on half board. They are ski in ski out and just absolutely brilliant. It isn’t in the bricks and mortar here but in the touches you find everywhere and may not even notice. The chandeliers are all Murano, the marble in the bathrooms at the Fitzroy is rare and sourced from the alps. The touches of class are everywhere but this is a relaxed, ski in ski out, super cool property. The Fitzroy is the five star offering and Le Val Thorens is four star but with its’ spa, pool, gym and stunning interiors I would argue it is at the very top of a four star rating.
We spent two glorious lunches on the terrace at Le Val Thorens and all agreed it was heaven. Overlooking the vast slopes with excellent service and food. This was our hosts’ happy place. I can see why.
I even managed a morning of ski while here. To be honest that is what people are here for. We picked up our ski gear and within 2 minutes met our guide and set off for what can only be described as fun skiing rather than elegant on my part. The number of lifts and runs means it wasn’t overly busy even with the resort at 90% capacity. I loved the open runs and as we cruised back to the door of the hotel I felt like I had found my happy ski place.
For families, the suites work well at both hotels and the style of the place would suit any couples or groups of friends looking for some epic ski.
Think cool hotels with a laid back style and attention to detail that you need to watch for as it is subtle yet stunning.
